Hans Bluedorn Brings us Fallacy Detective and Archer & Zowie

For the last few weeks, we have been reading aloud Archer and Zowie from Hans Bluedorn. We have been using it as part of our library’s summer reading program. We have been enjoying this fun book!

Every summer we have “Grammy Camp” here. I keep my grandchildren for part of the summer. In the past it’s been every other week, but last fall they moved just down the street from me. They are here Monday through Friday for most of the summer. My grandchildren are 9, 7 and 5 years old. What makes it even better is that my youngest children are 10 and 9. We get to do lots of fun things! Sometimes we have theme weeks or VBS or anything else we feel like doing.

Now that these guys are getting bigger we can do some big kid things. Getting the most out of our Summer Reading program is one of these things. The kids love the librarian, Miss Pat! They not only read to get prizes, but they like to please Miss Pat!! So we have done lots of reading this year!

I have been reading Archer and Zowie a few days a week. I mostly read while they are eating lunch. It’s nice to have a captive audience. They have enjoyed listening to this fun science fiction book about two friends with big imaginations. Because these Archer and Zowie are not watched very closely by their babysitter they pull down the microwave from on top of the refrigerator. The microwave becomes a “teleportee”.

This contraption can give them the things that they desire, they just put in the correct code and their item appears, well, they do need a credit card. This is not a problem since the babysitter isn’t actually watching them, they are able to acquire her credit card and complete their transaction.

My kids are enjoying all the things Archer and Zowie are getting into and their amazing imagination, but they also are very amused and surprised at the lack of supervision from the babysitter! As the microwave was been pulled to the floor, all 5 of these guys said “where is the babysitter!”. That made me laugh!!!

This book is written in a very fun style. The kids love it and want me to read more than the pages I had planned. I love it when that happens!!!

Archer and Zowie was perfect for our summer reading. It was just fun! It was a nice break from school books. We are looking forward to finishing it before school starts again soon.

The book we received is a nice quality soft cover book. It is 234 pages. The recommended ages for Archer and Zowie are 2nd- 6th grade. My soon to be kindergarten granddaughter is enjoying listening to it. They other kids are right in those ages and it’s at a perfect level for them.
