Apologia Educational Ministries iWitness Review

As usual, I jumped at the chance to review another quality product from Apologia Educational Ministries.  Apologia is know for their wonderful Christian resources.  These three books did not disappoint!  iWitness Biblical Archaeology, New Testament iWitness and Old Testament iWitness are written by Doug Powell.  These books are $14.00 each and are suggested for ages 11 and up.  They are 6×9 soft cover and each approximately 64 pages.

iWitness Biblical Archaeology was my favorite of these three.  It was Indiana Jones meets the Bible!!!  I have always loved watching the specials on tv that travel back in time and prove the Bible is right. This book does that and  starts with the flood and goes through many other Biblical events including the exodus of Egypt, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the tomb Jesus was buried in and so much more.  It proves through archeological finds that these events and people really did exist.  It shows people mentioned in the Bible (like David) where real and how up until that evidence, people believed that the Bible and history did not match up.

The Old Testament iWitness tells you how the books of the Old Testament came to be in our Bible.  It talks about who the major and minor prophets were.  It includes Jewish History and tradition.  I loved that!  I would love to add more of the Jewish traditions into my Christian life.  That’s a bucket list item for me, so learning about it in the book was really interesting to me!

The New Testament is similar in set up to it’s Old Testament partner.  It explains the books included and how it’s been copied by hand and is still accurate. It explains why the Old Testament is valid and how early Christians determined the books of the Canon for the New Testament and which books were not included and why.

I was hoping to read these aloud to my 8 year old 3rd grader, but the vocabulary was still a little bit above him.  Myself and 2 big kids read these.  We all enjoyed them and learned many interesting things.  My Bible college graduate daughter had good things to say about them.  She said what she learned about these subjects was a lot more than these books covered, but the information was sound.

Apologia will be adding two more books to the iWitness series in 2015: iWitness World Religion and iWitness Heresies and Cults.  We are looking forward to reading these also!

These books are really great resources.  I think they have great, accurate information.  I loved all the pictures and how each topic was broken down on different pages.  It was easy to read one topic, put it down, then pick it up again later.  They don’t go too far in depth.  They would be a great jumping off point for a group Bible study or a supplement or introduction to a personal study.  The books have great pictures and graphics, but the font was hard to read.  It looks great on the page, but reading was a little harder than I would have liked.

Apologia can be found on many social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest.
