We were given the opportunity to review Speekee, an award winning Spanish immersion program for children 2 through 10. I have been keeping my eye out for a Spanish program for all of us. This is targeted for younger children, be we all enjoyed listening to the fun songs as David watched the videos. It is easy to start to catch on to some of the Spanish even though no English words are used. We had never used an immersion program like this before. I wasn’t sure if David would know what they were talking and singing about, but he followed along quite easily.
The Speekee website describes it like this:
- 10 episodes of Spanish
- Over 150 minutes of pure Spanish learning
- Learn Spanish from real Spanish children in real Spanish locations
- Features songs, animation and puppets
- Optional subtitles in Spanish and English
- Free activity sheet downloads
- Great fun and extremely effective
- Created by specialist language teachers
- Free optional curriculum
- Songs you can’t stop singing
We received a 6 month subscription to Speekee TV, along with their FastTrack emails to use with David (6). Speekee is a puppet in these professionally done videos. He an his friends share differant places, such as the park, cafe and zoo, with the viewers. Each of the ten online videos is approximately 15 minutes long. The Speekee website describes Fast Track like this: “Speekee FastTrack is a 40 week plan that maximizes every child’s Spanish learning. Every week we’ve suggested 4 activities for you, with corresponding video clips, worksheets and other downloads. Taking just a few minutes, each activity accelerates understanding and use of Spanish.”
David enjoyed the videos and we used some of the FastTrack activities. I think this is a great introduction to Spanish for younger children. My big kids picked up some words too!
The first two weeks of Speekee TV are free. After that it’s $7.50 a month, payable through Paypal. A yearly subscription is also available for $60.
