More Hands On Learning!!!! AIMS Geometry ($9.95) is recommended for 6-8 grade. Allie is in 7th this year and it was a great supplement for her. The 7 lessons, used for 15 days, was a great fit with our workboxes. The book includes a CD with great resources. Worksheets can be printed right from the CD! Which means I can use this with my other children without buying another book! YAY!!! The CD also has instructional videos for the teacher, and more comics for the student. Yep, I said COMICS! There are comics in the book and more on the disc. I thought they were a fun way to reinforce the lesson, Allie thought they were a childish for her “teenage” math. Don’t tell her I told you, but she did like the comics!
Here is a description from their website- “Students develop the formulas for the areas of parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids. By cutting paper and working with geoboards, they understand the meaning of the formulas and apply them in a variety of problem-solving settings. Includes a CD with video help for each activity, as well as PDFs to facilitate printing and use on interactive boards.”
I felt that Allie benefited from using this supplement. She was able to see and measure shapes with hands on techniques. She also wrote algebraic formulas for what she was learning. It was a great reinforcement of the math she has been struggling with lately. It made a difference for her to physically cut out and chart her shapes on a graph. The book includes instruction for use of a geoboard. We don’t have one currently, but I really am thinking about getting or making one.
AIMS has many other products on their website for math and science. This is a website I will be looking at in the future for my kinesthetic teaching!!! Other Homeschool Crew members reviewed products sold in their math and science line, check them out HERE.
*AIMS Essential Math workbook was provided free for my review, as a member of the TOS Crew. I also state that the opinion is my honest opinion, and I was not reimbursed in any other way.
